Rheinmetall will exhibit a naval portfolio spanning a guided missile frigate design, an uncrewed surface vessel, a loitering munition, a 35mm gun system, decoy launchers and smart sea mines at Euronaval 2026, held November 3 to 6, 2026, at Paris Nord Villepinte, the Düsseldorf-based group announced on October 30, 2026. The headline première is MASS Nova, the next generation of its Multi Ammunition Softkill System.
The exhibition’s 30th edition is built around high-intensity naval warfare, and Rheinmetall’s lineup follows that framing. The company pitches a hybrid fleet of networked crewed and uncrewed platforms. Its Naval Systems division has moved quickly in 2026: Kraken K3 series production began in April, and the GMF 140 frigate design was unveiled on August 3, 2026.
Rheinmetall Euronaval 2026 Lineup: Kraken K3 USV, GMF 140 Frigate and FV-014
The Kraken K3, built by the Rheinmetall Kraken GmbH joint venture with UK-based Kraken Technology Group, is an 8.4-meter composite uncrewed surface vessel (USV) with a 1.93-meter beam, a 0.8-meter draft and a maximum displacement of 2,500 kg. Company data list a 600 kg modular payload, a top speed of 55 knots and up to 30 days of endurance depending on mission profile. Rheinmetall bills Euronaval as its first showing to a wider audience; the K3 already appeared at Eurosatory in June 2026.
Industrial scale is the differentiator. Hamburg output is sized for around 200 units per year, scalable to 1,000 depending on orders. An open architecture lets navies add third-party sensors and effectors without redesigning the hull, opening intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, anti-surface warfare and one-way attack roles.
The GMF 140 sits at the other end of the hybrid fleet. The 140-meter design displaces more than 6,000 tonnes and targets anti-air warfare, ballistic missile defense, anti-submarine warfare and long-range strike from 64 strike-length vertical launch cells. Rheinmetall lists the AEGIS combat system, augmented by its own CMS 330 as appropriate, along with a 30-knot top speed and a listed crew of 90 plus 35. The company plans to offer it first in an unnamed North American procurement campaign but has not named the program.
Rheinmetall will also show the FV-014 loitering munition, which combines reconnaissance, target identification and precision strike in one airframe. The roughly 20 kg system carries a warhead of about 4 kg, reaches 100 km, loiters for up to 70 minutes and is designed to operate in the presence of GNSS interference. The Bundeswehr signed a framework contract on April 22, 2026, with a first call-off of approximately €300 million. A 20-foot Containerized Missile Launcher holds up to 18 rounds and can be fitted to naval vessels.
MASS Nova Decoys, Millennium Gun and Asteria Mine for Fleet Defense
MASS Nova introduces a newly developed launcher with variable launch angles and greater capacity for 81mm Omni-Trap decoys, carrying 40+4 rounds and firing them faster to shorten reaction time against incoming threats. Rheinmetall has not detailed the four extra rounds. A standard MASS launcher holds up to 32 Omni-Trap decoys, with one to six trainable launchers per ship; the family was launched onto the market in 2002.
The Millennium gun appears in a self-contained configuration that runs independently of the host vessel’s data infrastructure. It pairs the Oerlikon AMMR, an S-band AESA surveillance radar for short-range air defense, with a fire-control radar, an electro-optical tracker and a compact mini-CMS that fuses sensor data and gives the operator direct control of the engagement chain. Rheinmetall data list a 35mm x 228 revolver cannon firing up to 1,000 rounds per minute in bursts, with up to 252 ready rounds of programmable AHEAD airburst ammunition. Needing no ship integration, it suits older hulls lacking a modern combat management system.
Asteria, developed by RWM Italia, is a multi-influence sea mine laid from surface vessels, transport aircraft or submarines and controlled remotely through a bidirectional acoustic link. RWM Italia data list a length of up to 3.15 m, a maximum weight of 1,050 kg and a net explosive quantity of up to 650 kg, with acoustic, magnetic, pressure, seismic, electric-field and optical sensors.
Analysis: The stand signals industrial intent more than new technology. Rheinmetall now covers every layer of a hybrid task group, from an AEGIS-capable frigate to attritable USVs built at volume, plus the softkill, gun and mine layers around them. That breadth supports packaged offers to navies rebuilding magazine depth and mine warfare capacity, but the GMF 140 remains a design without a launch customer, and the K3’s combat value depends on payload integration rather than hull count.
Watch for a launch customer for MASS Nova, the identity of the North American program the GMF 140 targets, and K3 orders large enough to push Hamburg toward its 1,000-unit ceiling. FV-014 deliveries to the Bundeswehr are scheduled to begin in the first half of 2027.
